Catholic High School Application Essay Workshop

The application essay is one criterion that private high school admission offices use to assess student writing skills and what uniqueness that student will bring to their school. Many students get overwhelmed with the task of completing the high school application essay. Some wait until the last minute, and end up not doing their best work.

In this writing workshop, 8th grade students will receive personal instruction to improve their writing skills and gain confidence in their ability to write. Each student will produce one (or more) final draft/s of an application essay question and will be able to upload it into their high school application.

This workshop is designed to successfully master the high school
application essay by:

  • Taking the frustration and worry out of the writing process
  • Planning & organizing essay questions with response statements that
  • Developing a sense of uniqueness
  • Establishing a focus with effective brainstorming techniques
  • Motivating and building self-confidence in writing
  • Learning and applying new writing skills to all academic writing     
  • Receiving teacher feedback on the individual writing assignment
  • Maintaining a small class size
